Tamil Nadu Road Development Company Ltd (TNRDC), incorporated in May 1998, was a 50:50 Joint Initiative of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) , the investment arm of Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS), an all-India infrastructure development and financial services company.

In November 2009, Tidel Park Ltd (TIDEL) completely acquired the equity shares of TNRDC held by IL&FS. As a result TNRDC has become a 50:50 joint venture company of TIDCO and Tidel Park Ltd.

TIDEL Park is the first largest IT facility in India promoted jointly by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation(TIDCO), Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited(ELCOT), both fully owned organisations of Government of Tamil Nadu.

TNRDC was set up with the mandate of developing initiatives in the road sector by catalyzing private sector resources and investments under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.

The Company is an innovative and unique institutional mechanism that complements the visionary zeal and administrative strength of Government of Tamil Nadu in infrastructure projects.

TNRDC's activities span the entire gamut from project conceptualization to implementation, operation and maintenance. The core strength of TNRDC is in formulating appropriate implementation and financing strategies for infrastructure projects so that they are implemented in an efficient and time bound manner while adhering to estimated costs and quality specifications.

The Company takes up for implementation, as principal project sponsor projects that are viable on stand-alone basis or projects that are marginally viable. For projects that are socially and economically relevant but cannot be implemented under a commercial format, the Company provides a range of services to the respective project sponsors on fee basis.

Transparency, application of sound management principles, flexible business model and above all, an unflinching commitment to safety, security and well-being of end-users/stakeholders have enabled TNRDC to build a formidable reputation in the road sector.

TNRDC is today considered a benchmark institution for development of infrastructure projects under Public-Private Partnership framework. Its project models have become templates that are being widely replicated across sectors and States.
